Also required

Not registry lookups; ezOIG doesn't run these
  • Fingerprint-based Illinois State Police and FBI check through the Health Care Worker Registry (livescan) for unlicensed employees with resident access not already on the Registry with a fingerprint check (225 ILCS 46/33; 77 Ill. Adm. Code 300.661, 955.165)
  • Verification with every other state's nurse aide registry the facility believes holds information on the aide (42 CFR 483.35(d)(5))

Why some registries are not screened yet

The registry blocks automated access
The registry's website turns away automated lookups. We don't work around that, so for now your staff search it themselves.
The registry's terms forbid automated searches
The registry's terms, or the law behind it, rule out automated or third-party searches, so ezOIG doesn't run them.
Requires an employer account
Searches go through the employer's own account with the agency, so ezOIG doesn't run them for you.

Guidance, not legal advice

This page summarizes ezOIG's research into Illinois's rules for this program, checked against the regulations as of October 16, 2026. Rules change, and an agency's own contract or license can add to them. Confirm what applies to you with Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) or your own counsel before relying on it.
